Apple Recommends Avoiding the Use of Rice To Dry Out Water-Damaged IPhones.

Apple is officially warning users against the popular folk remedy of putting a soaked iPhone in a bag of rice to absorb moisture.
The company advises against this practice, stating that it could potentially cause damage to the device due to small rice particles and dust that are left inside the device that may further damage its components. Furthermore, testing has shown that uncooked rice is not very effective at drying out the iPhone especially the moisture that might be trapped in hard-to-reach parts, which could lead to corrosion or other long term damage to the phone’s circuitry.
The origin of this drying technique dates back to the history of photography in 1946, where it was used to maintain cameras. Over the years, panicked phone users have suggested various risky methods, including using a hairdryer or submerging the device in alcohol.
Instead of relying on these ineffective and potentially harmful remedies, users are encouraged to seek alternative solutions for drying out their wet devices.
In this blog, we will learn about effects, and how to check your iPhone water damage. Also, we will let you know the symptoms of water damaged iPhone and what are other repair options which you can opt for, and how to decide whether to repair it or buy a new one.
First and foremost, don’t fall for the advertising trap made by different phone companies to increase their sales. Though it’s a wonderful tactic to advertise that certain devices are water-resistant we need to be aware of what they meant water-resistant to be.
IPhones are rated by Ingress Progression, which is called an IP rating. This rating tells customers exactly how water and dust resistant their phone is with different specifications for each rating, such as IP67, IP68.
Furthermore, Apple or other companies do not cover liquid damage for their devices, so we do not recommend intentionally testing these standards on your own.
To check whether your iPhone is water damaged, the common symptoms include the following, device getting heated, loss of sound, device not charging, device not recognizing SIM card, device out of service and camera failures.
How To Go About a Wet Phone 📱
To dry a wet phone, first power it off immediately to prevent any short circuits. Secondly, gently remove the SIM card and any other removable parts such as memory cards, and then pat the phone dry with a towel or cloth and use a vacuum cleaner or compressed air to remove any water from the ports.
Finally, place the phone in a container filled with silica gel packets or uncooked rice as an alternative to absorb any remaining moisture. Leave it there for at least 24 hours before attempting to turn it back on.
If this doesn’t work out for you, try seeking help from the nearest professional electronics technician.
